How does laser removal of unwanted veins work?

During the procedure, a pulse of intense, concentrated light is directed through a small, cooled hand piece. The headpiece is then placed over the area to be treated and the laser energy passes through the skin to the blood vessels being eliminated. When the concentrated light is placed over this area, selective damage occurs in the lining of the targeted blood vessels. This is done without damage to surrounding tissues. As the blood vessel is heated, it dies off and is reabsorbed into the body. With the flow of blood being directed beneath the skin, where it should be, unsightly veins can be successfully eliminated.
